The USB Doorbell for a customized dingdong
This one is for folks who are very picky about the ring tones on their cell phones. They can now customize (who in the world can think of) the typical "ding dong" of their standard doorbell. The USB Doorbell allows you to play your preferred sound effects, music, audio clips, movie quotes…….whatever! Whenever somebody presses that little button by your front door the USB Doorbell will "ring" using the jingle you have set. It first connects to your computer via USB (cable included) and will store any up-to-thirty second WAV or MP3 soundclip that you wish to use. Then disconnect it from your computer and attach it to your existing doorbell wiring. Unfortunately this isn't battery powered. It has three different volume settings and a mounting loop for attaching the USB Doorbell to a small screw or hook

Electronic Venus Flytrap devours pesky flies
The buzzing of the bees sounds cool in the Disney cartoons but the noise is sure annoying when a housefly tries to nest in your ears or better still try feasting on your food. A handy albeit "frivolous" gadget is The Fly Catcher. Borrowing the concept from the Venus flytrap, the unit comes with a non-toxic bait (hidden inside the mouth of the trap) to attract the bug. The unsuspecting bug ventures to the mouth of the trap and triggers off the sensor, which in turn snaps the jaws shut to kill it. But what's really funny in the whole exercise is that after its tasty meal, the flytrap reopens its mouth for the next bug after letting out a satisfying burp.
USB hub opens envelopes too
a second and third dimension to the humble USB hub is this one that functions as an alarm clock and letter opener. Besides the evident 4-ports that is USB 2.0 compatible the multifunctional the device cuts open the cover automatically when the envelope touches the spring slice. It even sounds a "Bi Bi" alarm around 30 seconds and is powered by 3-AA batteries or the USB connection. The transfer speed is up to 480 Mbps.

iPhone an ideal target for hackers and trojans
Remember the Get a Mac ad highlighting the point that there are 114,000 known viruses for PC and none for Mac. As many would point out the main reason is that Apple has a much lower market share than Microsoft Windows-based PCs. A Trojan (malicious code) is written for financial gain, and it makes absolute sense to write one which affects 90% of computers running on Windows then the remaining 10%. Trojans, worms, and viruses for mobile phones are nothing new, infact we have come across several instances of outbreaks affecting Symbian Smartphones as well as a few running on Windows Mobile Platform. The two platforms will converge when the iPhone is released in the US on June 29th. The release will potentially make writing malicious code for both an Apple product and a mobile device irresistible to some attackers. The iPhone is mobile device platform based on Mac OS X that allows users to browse the web as well as send and receive HTML e-mail with the Safari Web browser

U.K. Orange's wind-powered charger prototype may go commercial
The communications big-daddy Orange asked gotwind (Ben Jandrell) to design and make wind powered charger for mobile phones. With the 4 weeks deadline to make the prototype, the charger was ready in time to feature at the world famous U.K Glastonbury music festival of which Orange is a key sponsor. The wind charger generates about a half-watt of power, enough to trickle charge a rechargeable battery. This stored power is then ready for a mobile phone to be plugged into the small control box and fully charged within 1-2 hours (dependent on phone manufacturer).
